Huawei Mobile Bangladesh has opened its first ICT academy at Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) in Dhaka.
Huawei, one of the leading telecommunication and technology companies in the world, is going to set up an IT institute in Bangladesh.
An agreement is signed between the Huawei Mobile Bangladesh and Bangladesh University of Engineering in Dhaka or BUET. According to the agreement ‘Huawei-BUET ICT Academy’ will start working in BUET in April,2021.
It will be a specialized training center with more than 1,200 trainers from around the world.
Huawei is a Chinese technology giant, But it is facing difficulty especially in the United states of America after 2018 when the US government banned huawei.
Former United States President Donald Trump has imposed sanctions on the company, calling it a threat to US national security. In some other countries, including the United Kingdom, Huawei has been excluded from 5G development due to the same reason.
According to the plan and agreement, BUET will provide space for the academy, and Huawei will set up a laboratory to connect with other academies and technical assistance.
Bangladesh is going to enter 5-G technology in the future, but there is a shortage of skilled manpower in the country. BUET students will get a Huawei-BUET ICT Academy certificate with special training through this institute.
Huawei says “We will set up a fifth-generation technology lab for BUET teachers and students. With a combination of 5-G and modern laboratories, the academy will produce skilled manpower who will lead Bangladesh’s ICT sector in the future,”
The academy will be established as part of their nonprofit education program, and will work with two things in mind.
These include training and learning solutions to meet the needs of the information and computer technology sector, as well as creating a talented ecosystem for the ICT sector.
According to Huawei Mobile Bangladesh, there will be 63 courses on 19 different subjects, which will be certified by Huawei-BUET ICT Academy.
The official said that initially 250 BUET students a year will take part in the program.
“However, Huawei will set up 900 such ICT academies around the world and each of them will have a link to the other. This will create a huge communication network for the students of the academy.”
The senior official of Huawei Mobile Bangladesh added that BUET students will be able to participate in training, seminars and open classes at other academies. They will also be able to take part in Huawei’s regular online courses.
“45,000 students from all over the world will connect with 1,200 instructors and themselves through 900 academies. But there is a possibility of such an agreement with more universities in Bangladesh later,” states Huawei Mobile Bangladesh.
The academy will first train teachers. it is not for any particular department. All the departments will have the opportunity to acquire special skills in the academy.
